The Dogs

The Franklin County Dog Shelter is the largest animal rescue facility in the state of Ohio, serving over 14,000 dogs last year. At any time, there are over 200 dogs available at the shelter, with an additional 150 in holding and medical treatment areas and foster care.

Despite an outdated facility and burdens on space and budget, the Franklin County Dog Shelter staff is committed to a kinder, more humane approach to temporarily housing these homeless pets until just the right forever home appears. Therefore, there is no time limit on the adoption process, as dogs are evaluated for activity needs and temperament. Every dog also enters its adoptive home spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations.
